The Four Semester M.A Programme in Sociology is geared to equip students with sound theoretical knowledge, a sophisticated grasp of methodological issues, critical awareness of Indian society and, technical competence in the skills of social research and basic computer skills. Students are also provided with ample opportunities to develop communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.

The faculty is highly qualified and experienced. Their research interests include social demography, economic development, industrial sociology, labour relations, gender studies, sociology of minorities and backward classes.

The programme orients students towards professional careers in academic, policy research, advocacy, social development, training, Human Resource Development etc. Students are expected to under take significant amounts of independent directed study including internships and small research projects.
