Founded in 1920 Swansea University has a long history of academic success, excellent facilities and high standards of teaching, making it one of the best places to study in the UK. A total of 15,000 students from over 120 countries study over 500 undergraduate degree courses and 130 postgraduate courses. Studying in a research led university, students are taught by talented researchers with 90% of academic staff being research active. There are postgraduate opportunities to study for MBA, MSc, MA, MRes as well as MPhil and PhD.
Recent investments on the Swansea University campus include the £50 million Institute of Life Science, Multidisciplinary Research Centre, Institute of Environmental Sustainability and Centre for Sustainable Aquaculture Research. Swansea is also planning an ambitious campus expansion programme that will double its size and provide even more facilities to enhance its award-winning student experience.
The University library houses more than 900,000 books and periodicals as well as a wide range of online journals, articles, databases, DVD’s and videos and is open 81 hours per week during term. There are open-access computing facilities providing free use of a wide variety of applications and the internet as well as e-mail facilities for students.
The Sports Centre provides facilities for all the major sports and houses an Olympic –sized swimming poll. The Athletic Union is responsible for many of the University’s sporting activities and supports more than 50 sports societies. The Taliesin Arts Centre offers a programme of live music, dance, theatre and film to suit a variety of tastes. In addition the campus has its own book shop, bakery, health centre, dentist, international food store, private accommodation agency, travel shop, chapel, mosque, bank, post office, restaurants, bars, supermarket and launderette.
An excellent Careers Centre provides advice to students about employment opportunities. Swansea boasts a student employment rate of 91% within six months of graduation.
