| Overview |
Established in the year 1990, the Department of Statistics is committed to excellence in teaching and equipping students to become practicing statisticians. The main objectives of the department are
1. To acquaint students with various statistical methods and their applications in different fields
2. To cultivate statistical thinking among students
3. To develop skills in handling complex problems in data analysis and research design
4. To prepare students for future courses having quantitative components.
The special features of the Statistics Department are:
1. Inter collegiate fest ‘Inference’
2. Guest Lectures for the students
3. Workshop for college teachers
4. Guest lectures by faculty
5. Faculty being the resource people
6. SPSS training for students and faculty
7. Statistical Consultancy for in-house researchers
Statistics is one of the core subjects for BSc students with CMS combination. The department is offering eight papers in six semesters for the students of CMS course. Also, they have their practical sessions in which they are trained to analyse the data using the techniques they learn.
Department of statistics caters to other departments like BCA, MCA, MA Economics, MTA and MSCom also. The department trains the students of MSCom and MA Economics in SPSS package for data analysis. Also the final year students of CMS are trained in SPSS.
