Physics
The Department of Physics in Christ University was started in the year 1969. It offers Physics as a subject at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It offers two specializations i.e., Crystal Physics and Electronics at the PG level. The course opens up teaching as well as research opportunities in Physics. The postgraduate course in Physics is the final formal training for students to provide in depth knowledge of the subject. Hence, regular class room teaching is supplemented with tutorials, brain storming ideas and problem solving efforts pertaining to each theory and practical course.
Mathematics
The undergraduate course in Mathematics is designed to enable the students to lay a strong foundation in various fields of Mathematics. The course enables the students to develop a respectable intellectual level seeking to expose the various concepts in Mathematics. It also aims at enhancing the students reasoning, analytical and problem solving skills. The first four semesters are devoted to appreciate the beauty of mathematics through Introductory Algebra, Matrix Theory, Calculus, Differential Equations, Analytical Geometry and Vector Calculus. The open source mathematical package Scilab is introduced in the fourth semester to sensitize the students to the programming skills and visual treatment. Students find better perceptions of the classical papers like Abstract Algebra, Linear Algebra, Number Theory and Real and Complex Analysis in the fifth and sixth semesters. Fourier series and Integral Transforms and Numerical Analysis papers help the students to envisage an in depth knowledge of various numerical methods and integral transforms required in Scientific and Technological Applications.
Electronics
The department of Electronics is an integral part of Christ University. It was established in the year 1988 with Physics, Mathematics and Electronics (PME) combination, three faculty members and student strength of thirty. Computer Science, Mathematics and Electronics (CME) as a second combination was started in the year 1999. The student strength has grown to 350 with five faculty members. The department aims at setting a benchmark in education in the field of electronics.
Scope
Higher learning students deeply interested in pursuit of advanced studies in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Electronics and Statistics can find opportunities in
a) i) M.Sc in the respective disciplines
ii) Many interdisciplinary post-graduate courses like M.Tech, M.Sc and M.C.A and Ph.D degree in many prestigious institutions all over India and abroad.
iii) Master of Business Administration and Master of Computer Applications.
b) i) Teaching in schools & colleges where any of the science subjects is an important discipline
ii) Indian Administrative Services and other state and central Govt. Services where knowledge of science subjects is a definite advantage especially at the entrance examinations.
iii) In C.A /ICWA/GRE/GMAT etc. leading to very rewarding and self-satisfactory careers.
iv) Careers in Computer Science, Computer Application, Science and Technology and Management where a high level of competence and dependence on many of the science subjects like Physics, Mathematics and Electronics is demanded.
v) Careers in the electronics industries like BEL, BPL etc. situated in and around Bangalore particularly for PCM and PME students.
